I don’t want to over-depress anyone by listing two World War II movies, so I will group these 2 together, as they are both incredible. “The Pianist”, responsible for Adrien Brody’s Oscar win, depicts a talented and famous Polish pianist who is forced on the run during the war to save his life. This man, once surrounded by luxury and greatness is reduced to eating mouldy potatoes and hiding in attics. “Swing Kids” shows a different side of the war by following two young German boys who are best friends and forced against their will into the Hitler Jugend. They started as rebels joined in a cause, and ended up as enemies fighting for their lives. Both movies will bring you to tears (if you’re me, uncontrollably), but both are masterfully acted and brilliantly written
