RELIGULOUS

Documentaries are no longer the boring National Geographic specials of yesteryear, with satirical, political commentaries by filmmakers like Michael Moore and Bill Maher. If you thought Michael Moore stepped on some toes with his views on gun laws or the White House, “Religulous” is Bill Maher’s very controversial look into the world of religion, and he does not tiptoe through any of it. He is well read and educated in Christianity, Judaism and Islam and it shows with his quick quips and rebuttals when facing members of the different religions. I warn you that if you are deeply religious, this movie may be offensive, but I found it smart and sophisticated, questioning things that so many people follow blindly and take for granted. Since religion seems to be blamed or credited for much of the world’s turmoil, it was about time that one of these political comedians took a stab at it, and Maher completely dissects it.
